🌍 reggae & dancehall: from Jamaica to Nigeria
roots reggae history
Born in late 1960s Jamaica, roots reggae carried spiritual and Rastafarian messages. Artists like Bob Marley spread it worldwide. In Nigeria, the sound merged with highlife and Afrobeat, creating a unique socio-political voice. Brigadier carries that torch with pure intent.
dancehall evolution
From the digital rhythms of the 80s (Yellowman, Shabba Ranks) to today's Afro dancehall, the genre dominates African airwaves. Modern Afro dancehall blends Jamaican cadence with local languages and beats. Nigerian dancehall artists like Brigadier Brown Bread keep it conscious yet energetic. The demand for Afro dancehall instrumental and beats is rising, with producers pushing new fusions.
